Quilt Preparation

Bringing your quilted dreams to life, stitch by stitch

Quilt Preparation

Quilt Top:

  • Trim all threads

  • Square up the quilt top.
  • Carefully press quilt top.
  • Mark the top of the quilt with a safety pin.

Quilt Back:

  • Use a ½” seam allowance for all seams when piecing your backing.
  • Square up your back (This is important for attaching the backing to the machine and ensuring good quality stitching.)
  • Press all seams open.
  • Quilt back must be 8 inches larger than the length and width of your quilt top. For example: if your top measures 60” x 70” then your backing must measure 68” × 78”
  • Carefully press backing.
  • Do not pin or baste your quilt together.

Batting:

Select a good, quality batting that is the same size as your backing fabric.  Hobbs, Warm & Natural and Quilter’s Dream are all trusted brands.  We have Warm & Natural 100% cotton batting in the studio that you can purchase by the yard.
